Wooden lights

Wood is the most prominent part of wooden plants, such as (especially) trees and shrubs. From a botanic point of view, wood is the final result from the cambium-produced secondary xylem of seed plants. According to this definitely, the wooden structures of, for example, palms, are not actually wood. One of the traits is the deposit of lignin (a wood particle) in the cell wands. Other definitions therefore refer to wood as wood-like plant structures.

Wooden lights from different types of wood

There are many different types of wood. Often, there is a very rudimentary division between leaf-wood (hard wood) and needle-wood (soft wood). Needle-wood types, like whitewood and pinewood, are often relatively soft, while leaf-wood types, such as oak wood, is way heavier and harder. When a specific type of wood is hard, does not mean it is hard to work with. Mahogany wood is a gorgeously red type of wood, relatively hard, but very easy to work with. It is perfectly suited for the crafting of precious furniture elements. The wood of the ochroma pyramidale, on the other hand, is very light and soft, which makes it a useful material for applications such as model building for model planes.
