Mounting lights & tips

We have got a lot of different types of lights available, and there are also various ways to mount and place them. We have listed the most popular mounting instructions and handy tips below, for you!

Mounting

Mounting on a soft underground – If you want to mount lights on a soft underground, you can make use of a mounting wedge. This will require additional screws and bolts.

Mounting on a hardened underground – If you want to mount lighting on a hardened underground, you will only require plugs, screws and bolts. Please keep in mind these are often not supplied with your order, as the mounting material depends on your specific situation.

Wall mounting – Most wall lights will be delivered with additional installation tools, so you can choose to immediately mount the light to the wall. Please pay attention to the energy point in the wall. If you have chosen a light, you will see a picture of the mounting plate. This plate will cover the energy point. This will allow you to estimate whether the light ends up at the exact right height you require.

Ceiling mounting – Pendant lights and ceiling lights are often delivered without additional installation material because the mounting method depends on your type of ceiling. Your ceiling can consist out of plaster, stone, wood or tiles. Keep this in mind when you go looking for the right installation material and tools.

Mounting spotlights – When you mount spotlights, you need to keep in mind what the saw diameter, the depth of the spotlight and the water-proof factor are. Just like ceiling mounting, there are no installation materials supplied when you buy these lights, as the type of wall can vary a lot, too!

 Tips

Metal Coat Wash – If you want to maintain your aluminium lights and metal lights, we advise the use of 'Metal Coat Wash'. This product will protect your light thanks to a dirt-repelling layer, and will extend the lifespan.

Stainless steel maintenance – A lot of stainless steel lighting needs proper maintenance. A stainless steel maintenance product is perfect for this. When you use this product, dirt and water will not stick to the fitting, which can improve the lifespan of the material.

Cast resin mould – If you need to connect your lighting beneath the ground, it might be a good idea to make use of a cast resin mould. This will allow you to connect the light without interference of water or dirt, and therefore potentially avoid short circuit incidents.

Mounting wedge – Floor lights that are placed on a non-hardened underground, can be affixed in place easily and fast when you use a mounting wedge. In this case you will not concrete.

Motion sensor – Virtually all lights can be connected to a motion sensor. This motion sensor will make sure the light switches on at night or in the evening, when you drive close to it or walk past it. A switch becomes obsolete thanks to the use of this sensor.

Dimmable sensor – Outdoor lights can be connected to a dimmable sensor. The sensor will switch the light on as soon as dusk falls, and will turn it back off when dawn rises. The light will burn only when it is necessary, and you will not have to operate it using a switch.

Terrace lights - Do you want to mount lights on your terrace, perhaps in order to read a book? In that case, you want to make sure the light point is higher than 1.50 metres. That way, the light will illuminate your book, but will not cause any light pollution when you look around.

Torch lights – Are you about to go on a hunt, a school camp, a hike or another opportunity where you would have to constantly use a torch light? In that case, please consider buying a torch light with LED lighting. The storage battery or regular battery will not be burdened by LED and will therefore have a longer lifespan.

Table lights – Are you mounting a light above your dining room table? Please make sure this light will not obstruct your vision, so there is no chance you have to look past the light when you are trying to have a cosy dinner. It can also be a massive inconvenience if you want to get up and the light is hanging too low.

Bathroom lights - You have to keep in mind your light is waterproof or at least resistant to weather, like the IP-value indicates. The required IP-value depends on the location in the bathroom you wish to install your light. A light you use in your shower has to perform better in regard to being waterproof, than a simple spotlight above your sink. If you opt for LED technology, you might want to keep the light colour in mind, too. Choose for a 'warm white' colour, for example, so your skin has a natural colour.

Condensation in your outdoor light?
Surely you have wondered before why and how condensation happens in your outdoor lights. These droplets on the inside of your light appear once the moisture in the air outside is different from the moisture in the air on the inside of the light. There is not much you can do about that, and the condensation does not say anything about how waterproof your light actually is. Actually, the opposite is true. The more waterproof your light is, the bigger the chance you have condensation in your light.

Scale on stainless steel lights?
Every outdoor light needs some maintenance every now and then, and the same is true for a stainless steel light. Scale on your stainless steel light can be prevented, by treating it frequently with a stainless steel maintenance product. The quality of the material also determines the lifespan of the light itself.
